All facets of academics at Holy Cross are aimed at offering our students an education of excellence. We promote excellence by ensuring that you sample all major areas of learning, and that you become adept at making connections and communicating your ideas effectively. Courses throughout the curriculum provide intensive practice in the essential skills of critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and persuasive writing and speaking.
Our Educational Approach
- All Holy Cross students take courses that allow them to explore the sciences, humanities, social sciences, and arts. Through this exploration, you’ll broaden your understanding of the world and have the freedom to follow your personal interests. These areas of learning will help you build a framework for your own education and make unexpected discoveries that may turn into life-long passions.
- We don’t require students to declare a major until the end of the sophomore year. This gives you the time to confirm your original idea about a major – or turn it upside down. Either way, you’ll be confident that you have found the academic direction that suits you best.
- We give students the option of complementing their main field of study with double majors, minors, or multidisciplinary concentrations. You can combine fields and interests in your own way, with the help of faculty support and advising.
- Students can enrich and personalize their Holy Cross education through hands-on learning opportunities ranging from study abroad to internships to research. These experiences enable you to enhance your own education in settings outside the classroom and grow in new ways, always encouraged, mentored, and challenged by members of the Holy Cross community.
- We have a distinctive outlook on preparing students for specific career fields, such as medicine or law. We have seen again and again how a broad education offers the best long-term value, teaching you how to apply your interests, be flexible, and continue to learn. You can prepare for careers through our preprofessional programs while majoring a subject of your choice.
